Who's Dr Who? Pt 3

So, who is the new Doctor Who?

Matt Smith, of whom many of you may have seen on the BBC series Party Animals (currently screening in Australia on ABC1), has been announced by the BBC as the new time lord. While I’m sure he’ll be a fine Dr Who, it’s a bit disappointing that he seems so darn similar to David Tennant. I really do prefer the casting of Dr Who against type.

I saw this guy in the play Swimming with Sharks last year. He was playing an American so his Doctor interpretation is a bit hard to predict, but he was definitely compelling and interesting to watch.

It’s Doctor Who. Not Dr Who, as all Who geeks know.

Sweet jesus MediaMook, the Internet is simply not the place for such a nerdy argument.

  4. Zaph says:

Actually, it’s ‘The Doctor’. There’s no such person as ‘Dr’ or ‘Doctor Who’ – that’s the name of the program, not the character.

Yes. It is ‘The Doctor’. Not ‘The Dr’. If the show was titled ‘Dr Who’, the BBC would never have been able to use the anagram ‘Torchwood’ for the spin-off series. Mind you, ‘Torchwood’ is so embarrassingly awful this may have actually been for the best.
