Freeview to launch officially on Monday?

Media Spy are reporting that the Australian Freeview brand is set to launch on Monday evening at 6:29pm with the commercial networks all screening the launch commercial at the exact same time.

There is no mention, however, as to whether the ABC or SBS will be involved with broadcasting the launch ‘roadblock’.

Considering the fact that the commercial networks won’t be launching their dedicated multi-channels until the second quarter of 2009, this feels a tad premature, but anything designed to stimulate attention regarding digital television is certainly a positive move.

Hopefully the Freeview marketing exercise will expel the notion that digital television is difficult to understand and set up, nor does one need a digital or HD telly to receive the signal. It’s fairly easy to explain. It’s just unfortunate that nobody has bothered to do that yet.
