Channel 9 Brisbane signs Lofty
Brisbane is home to a newsreader who makes the ladies swoon. Women want him. Men want to be him.

As host of ABC1′s 7pm News Bulletin, Andrew Lofthouse delivers a warm charisma on-screen, while exerting the required sense of authority one wants of their Newsreader. Sure, he’s no Ron Burgandy, but that was a different era.
Channel 9 Brisbane tonight have announced the signing of Andrew Lofthouse to join the weekend newsreading team at the commencement of the new year. This announcement has been made just an hour after long-serving Channel 9 News Reader Heather Foord announced on air her plans to step down from the role.
Andrew Lofthouse is a television talent and is wasted on a weekend shift. This announcement is either a sign that Channel 9 don’t realise what they have in Lofthouse, or, more likely, is designed to serve as a message to Foord’s on-air partner Bruce Paige.
While Bruce Paige certainly seems like an affable guy, he really does lack the on-screen presence delivered by Lofty. Channel 9 would be well served to move Andrew Lofthouse into a weekday newsreading role as soon as possible. Of course, I’m sure this is a move that is already on the cards.

Anders, wait forty days before you cheer.
That is the number of days Paige has before he is off contract. Then and only then, they will announce Lofthouse is moving to weeknights not weekends, unless Paige resigns from 9 (earliest date being December 5) or re-signs with Nine with days to spare.

It’s interesting – I must admit I was surprised to hear he’d be going to weekends.
Can only assume further changes are in the works.

I’m a big Lofty fan, and with a move to NEIN, I’m a little sad that I probably won’t get the chance to watch him again as I tend to avoid NEIN and its beige programming.
