Joss plays within the Dollhouse

Everyone seems convinced the show will get canned early in. And that was before we got to see a frame of it.

Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer, Angel) has created a new series for 20th Century Fox starring Eliza Dushku. With a convoluted plot that seems reminiscent of the oft-maligned Christian Slater series My Own Worst Enemy, Dollhouse is set to launch mid-season in January.

All of that said, I’ve mostly liked Joss’ work and will give this a go when it does premiere. But lordy, do they really have to use such a tired-sounding chick-rock track over this preview?

On the plus side, the show does feature Olivia Williams. *swoon*

It worried me that they had to pull it and tool around with it before the launch, but I’ll still be watching. I have the faith.

“DollhouseLast night, we received a press release with a bunch of mid-season start dates, including Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, February 13, 2009.

I’m sorry, but WTF? Is Fox trying to once again screw over Joss and his compatriots (such as has been done with his previous television opus Firefly) by giving it the Friday night death slot?”

Probably make a promising scifi movie, if it does get scrapped. I can’t imagine the tetchy network fools in australia (at least..if it even got this far) giving it more than one chance.

Far be it from me, but a man with so many projects and quite alot of out-put recently, but is Whedon a little tired? The fact that we’ve already hit stumbling blocks and re-writes is worrying. Is everything not quite gelling in the Whedonverse?

From memory (and therefore entirely possibly incorrect) Joss did some tooling around with Firefly too before it aired (I seem to remember him discussing problems with not introducing the characters properly in an audio commentary or interview).

  6. Simon Band says:

The not introducing characters properly I thought was more of a complaint that he was asked to introduce everybody rapidly during the ep “the train job” rather than the pilot being shown first. The episodes were shown out of sequence, and I think the complaint was more at having to jump into the action without have the long universe establishing pilot.

Oh yeah, that’s right – thanks Simon.

Don’t thank me, thank my left-winging Arts degree!
