The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly – 22.02.08

The Good
Seinfeld (Nine, 11pm)-
Season six of Seinfeld kicked off with this great episode ‘The Chaperone’ in which Jerry dates Miss Rhode Island. But, here’s a question….what the heck is Seinfeld doing back on Channel 9? Have Ten let the rights lapse? And if so, why during summer didn’t Nine schedule this instead of the woeful Two and A Half Men at 7pm, pitting it against former Nine series Friends?

The Bad
Penn & Teller BS (Nine, 11:30pm)-
Magicians Penn & Teller present this weekly exploration into a specific topic in order to explore the BS surrounding it. Episodes vary wildly in quality, but it is admittedly always worth a watch.

The Ugly
Blind Justice (Ten, 4am Sat morning)-
Ron Eldard stars as a blind police detective in this exceedingly dumb cancelled drama series from a couple of years ago. That said, as terrible as it is (and it really, really is), you could do much worse at 4am on a Saturday morning.

Never expected Ten to let Seinfeld go, but then again it’s probably passed its profitable life – with Ten last relegating it to weekend afternoons, and the series has been available on DVD for some time, it’s no doubt outlived its purpose at Ten and as for Nine taking it on, well they’ve made a number of dubious programming choices in the last year or so, haven’t they?

Seinfeld is seemingly only showing in Brisbane tonight too. Another wonder why Nine would go to the bother of taking the series if it’s only going to be used as filler.

  2. Wow – saw it tonight and thought you should all know – it’s in Widescreen, for those who don’t know – the DVDs aren’t even in Widescreen, Neither Ten nor TV1 have ever aired a widescreen episode and up till I thought they didn’t exist.

Obviously Nine went and got some new prints!

The episodes are displayed in widescreen, but are a cropped version of the original image. The show wasn’t shot with widescreen in mind, so viewers are better off watching the original 4:3 image for a proper shot composition.

That said, the widescreen actually doesn’t look too bad, considering that it has been cropped.
