The 7pm Project Ratings 1 Feb – 5 Feb 2010

Our look at the 7pm timeslot continues, with a special eye on the beliguered Channel 10 show The 7pm Project.

With ratings consistently just under where they need to be for Channel 10 to maintain justified support for the show, The 7pm Project is certainly on life support at the moment. Rumours circulated last week of crisis meetings at Channel 10 regarding the show. Whether that’s true or not, there is no doubt that its a show that the network must be watching very closely at this point.

Last nights Hamish & Andy appearance paid off handsomely for the program, with 723,000 tuning in for the show. It’s a sign that the show should be playing up the personalities and comedy aspects of the show and less on the news and issues of the day. The US program The Daily Show is able to merge this together, however it has proven to be an ill fit for The 7pm Project. There needs to be less emphasis on having a Steve price or a ‘Barefoot Investor’ on the show, and more of an attempt to give regular slots to a Hamish & Andy, or even a Ross Noble. It will be interesting to see whether they can keep the viewership from last night as the week goes on.

It also seems that The 7pm Project is not the cause of all of Tens woes. A drop in audience was recorded from 7pm for The Biggest Loser at 7:30 with just 667,000 tuning in for that show. Very little seems to be working at Channel 10 this year.

Perhaps the time is right to refocus the channel entirely.

+1! Ross Noble would be very good for the 7/11pm Project.

Used to do a similar job, but Hey Hey it’s Good News Week! has just about rooted itself into a whacky hat. Last night the studio audience and this disbarred canine medico were in real grief. I soon found reason to be AWOL. Panel just resorting to pretend attacks on each other.. haha. Did half the GNW writers quit for the new season?

For now if it’s topical, on tv and not QA it’s bound for the toidy. The apparent demographic for that show is quite amazing.

Must be time to do a follow up on this as I’ve heard rumours that the show is (unfortunately) rating better lately.

Every time I see an add for the show now they really sound like they are trying to be more like ACA or TT, with all these stories that apparently “no parent can afford to miss”. My feelings were confirmed when I saw someone from the show say they now realise they are a “news show with a twist” instead of a “comedy show with news”.

I don’t watch it at all anymore and wish it had been axed at Easter like Dan predicted it would.

I’m planning to take an in-depth look at the show again during the final week of Masterchef, then track it for the 6-8 weeks that follow.

Of course, the MC factor! Is it just the last 10 minutes that are rating better or the whole show?
