David Reyne Says Goodbye To 9am and Kim
It’s always seemed like an awkward fit. David Reyne and Kim Watkins, stars of Channel 10′s morning program 9am With David & Kim. Strangely, despite the oil and water vibe of the program, it strangely worked. The show was distinctive and stood well apart from the distinct similarity of The Morning Show and Mornings With Kerri-Anne Kennerley.
9am With David & Kim has proven itself as the little show that could, despite middling ratings in the timeslot, it has stayed on air for several years now. Defying expectation. I’d heard several statements from PR folk in the early weeks of the show that they had booked talent to appear on the show, but didn’t expect the show to still be on the air by the time the segment was to be recorded.
DAVID REYNE EXITS STAGE LEFT
Friday 21, August 2009
Network Ten today announce David Reyne, host of “9AM”, has decided not to return for another season, signing off from the show he helped launch, at the end of this year.
David Reyne said, “After 4 year of hosting ’9AM’ I have decided to hand in my notice to Network TEN. Over almost 1,800 hours of the program I’ve run with the whole gamut of topics from global
warming, the GFC, celebrity gossip to choosing the right vase for your Mother’s Day flowers and reading tea leaves. It’s been truly exhilarating, occasionally excruciating and utterly exhausting.”“I know it’s customary at a time like this for the exiting host to say something gratuitous about their employer – but I truly mean it when I say that it’s been a great delight for me to have worked with
the magnificent team of people at Network TEN. I’m very grateful for their support over the past 4 years.”“For the time being I’m just looking forward to a long lie down over summer while thinking about what 2010 may hold in store for me.”
Network Ten’s chief programming officer, David Mott said, “We have appreciated and enjoyed working with David over the last 4 years.”“9AM was a brand new venture back in 2006 and David’s good humour and skill have been fundamental in establishing the loyal audience base we enjoy now.”
“We will miss him and wish him well.”
“In light of David’s decision we are reviewing all elements of “9AM” in 2010. More announcements will be made over the coming months.
It will be interesting to see where Ten take the timeslot in 2010. While they may opt for a new co-host for Kim, it would hardly be a surprise to see them use their resources elsewhere and revamp the timeslot entirely.
4 years fronting a TV show like this has been a hell of a run.

Cool, now if I happen to flick over to the show, I’ll be able to keep my breakfast down, rather than stare at his spread crotch, and tolerate his “it’s 9am and I’m already drunk” posture.
In the few times I’ve seen him, half the time he was blocking his own face, with his coffee mug, on the two-shot, or when interviewing some unlucky contractually-obligated sucker.

I like David, a complete snob, arrogant, and a total wanker. Best thing on morning television.
I take issue with you Ivovic, I’d GLADLY throw my breakfast up on his spread crotch. (that came out wrong)

Bring back Ian Skippen’s Living!
-
There was ‘living’ then? And whatever happens to ye olde crusty Extra hosts.. where do they go when they’re gone? Oh for the timeless “more ways to save your money in the kids lunchbox”… My god – what have they done to us?

Simply, Living was a morning TV program Ten used to air in Brisbane in the 1980′s, after Good Morning Australia (back when it dealt with breakfast news not advertorials), and a young Ian Skippen, moustache and all, hosted.
Back last year, I actually thought that Skippen would make a plausable replacement on Big Brother, and I got this response from a friend…
“Surely cringe-worthy local TV is better than cringe-worthy national TV. I reckon Skippen would be no worse than David and Kim – and I reckon, in proportion, he’d rate better.”

Nooooooooooooooooo!!!
