Theme Inspiration

Since hearing it for the first time earlier this week, it has been difficult getting the new theme song for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon out of ones mind. But, is it possible that the tune has been embedded in our minds for much longer? Washington Post TV critic Tom Stuever noticed a strong similarity between the new theme song and a song featured in the 1970’s kids TV show The Electric Company. The resemblance is rather striking.

This isn’t to suggest that Questlove, who composed the theme for the new show purposefully lifted¬†¬†the song from The Electric Company. Born in 1971, Questlove is the right age to have grown up watching the show as a kid. It’s possible that the tune was just deeply buried in his brain. Or it could also be a complete coincidence.

Very catchy tune.

  • Interesting theory in the connection between the tunes!

Although it would be better if they remade the actual Electric Company theme! It was very ’70s disco IIRC
