#110 Doctor Who S03E6P4/ The Ark part 4: The Bomb

By Richard Sellers

As the Monoids start transporting their entire population to the surface of Refusis, Steven and the abandoned humans search franticly for the bomb, but they have no clue that it’s inside the giant Monoid statue.

On the surface The Doctor disavows any knowledge of the native population, but some of the Monoids don’t believe him and think it would be safer back on the Ark.  The Doctor uses the argument as a distraction to send the Refusian back to the Ark in the landing shuttles to get the humans and tell Steven were the bomb is. The take off of the ships sparks a minor civil war among the Monoid and they start slaughtering each other.

Landing on the Ark the all powerful, invisible Refusian easily moves the giant statue into the launch bay and shoves it into space, just in time as it explodes moments later. All the humans including the micro sized, freeze dried millions are then taken to the planet where the Refusians offer the planet to them as their new home, but only if they agree to make peace with the Monoids. Of course, the humans and Monoids agree and our time travelers once again take their leave of the Ark.

All seems well for our travelers as they make their way through time/space towards their next destination until The Doctor begins to sneeze. Steven and Dodo make light of the situation, but that quickly changes when The Doctor turns invisible right before them. The Doctor declares that his condition is some sort of external attack and the others begin to panic.

This was a so-so and very predictable ending to a so-so and uninspired story arch. At least we didn’t have to listen to Dodo too much.
