If you are at this website, it is likely because you really like television. You’d be hard pressed to find a TV show anywhere in the world that has as strong a reverence for television history as Boston Legal.
For those of you unfamiliar, Boston Legal is the most recent series from TV auteur David E. Kelly. The show is a spin-off from The Practice (itself a spin-off from Chicago Hope, a spin-off of Picket Fences). Boston Legal takes the irreverent humour of Kelly’s Ally McBeal, while mixing it with the strong social commentary found in Picket Fences. It an appealing blend that makes for great disposable TV.
What takes the show from disposable TV to Must See TV for any TV fan is the sheer number of classic television actors who appear in the series.
The regular cast features William Shatner (Star Trek, TJ Hooker), Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown), Julie Bowen (Ed), and Rene Auberjonois (Star Trek: DS9, Benson), with recurring actors including: John Larroquette, Betty White, Henry Gibson, Armin Shimerman, and Michael J. Fox.
Then consider guest stars- Katey Segal, Delta Burke, Jayne Brook, Tom Selleck, Adam Arkin, Ed Begley Jr, Larry Miller, Jeri Ryan, Heather Locklear, Megan Mullally, Robert Wagner, Carl Reiner, and Jaleel White.
Every episode is a veritable TV lovers treasure trove. Not an episode goes by where you won’t either jump in your chair with excitement at a TV great on screen, or wonder who the heck you’ve seen that actor before.
Oh, and did I mention that the great Phoef Sutton is a staff writer?
If you’re serious about your telly, you’d be an idiot not to be watching Boston Legal on a regular basis.

I totally agree. “Boston Legal” is a rare Monday night treasure.
David E Kelly I believe is busying himself with the American remake of the far too clever “Life on Mars”. True? Probably. Awesome? Yet to be seen. Unnecessary remake? Like FREEDOM FRIES!
I agree – words cannot describe how much joy this show brings me each week and I have been watching for several years now. I just wish channel 7 would put it on in an earlier time slot.
