People are raised these days to believe that they are special and individuals, but is that necessarily so? Everybody believes that they are special and await that one moment in time where they can reveal the hidden abilities that lie within.
Enter Heroes. A show designed to tap into people’s delusions of grandeur.
So, what’s it about?
Much like every other new US series this season, Heroes is about a group of people with no previous connection, of whom are all brought together with a common purpose. As of yet, none of the characters have met in an official capacity. The characters include the brother of a politician who believes he can fly, a high school cheerleader with the ability to heal quickly, a webcam stripper with an evil twin reflection, an asian office worker with the and the son of a known scientist with some interesting theories about mankind.

Who’s in the darn thing
Ali Later. Yawn. Adrian Pasdar (Mysterious Ways), and Milo Ventimiglia (Gilmore Girls and The Opposite Sex). Ventimiglia is reasonably charismatic, but the rest of the cast are yet to really stir my interest.
What happens in the first episode?
Good question. I saw the show twice and I’m not quite sure anything happened. Primarily it was a meet and greet affair. There is a tendency for new shows now to simply introduce long character arcs. While I love that shows are seeking to maximise the potential of the genre, I’m concerned that writers are simply willing to coast through with just character development and not deliver with a rewarding plot to capture the audiences imaginations.

Is it any good?
Give it a go. It certainly has more promise than most of the other new shows I’ve encountered. That said, it does feel like it lacks any real innovation as well as providing no real incentive to keep watching. I’ll certainly stick with it for a few episodes, but I’m certainly prepared to drop it with no regrets.

What’s Milo’s role?
I can see him as a high school cheerleader with the ability to heal quickly or a webcam stripper with an evil twin reflection.
What has the Asian office worker got?
The asian office worker has charm and charisma as his primary abilities, followed by transportation across time and space. Just like Kitty Pryde.
Milo’s role is that of the everyman. Beyond that, watch for yourself. Do I look like I’m gonna give away all the answers? I’m hardly Nelson Aspen.
